Ngo In India, Akshaya Patra Feeds Over 1.4 Mn A Day-rainism

News-and-Society The Akshaya Patra foundation is an NGO in India that runs the mid day meal scheme for Government school children all across the country. With a vision that No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger the organization aims to eliminate classroom hunger in India. The Foundation was started in the year 2000 feeding just 1,500 children across 5 schools in Bengaluru in Karnataka, India. Today the organization runs 24 kitchen units across 10 states of India. Every day the Foundation feeds over 1.4 million children across 10,770 Government and Government aided schools across the country. In addition to this the Foundation works to provide nutrition to pregnant and lactating mothers, and their infants during this important stage of their life by feeding over 150,000 infants between the ages of 0-6 and almost 6,000 mothers in Anganwadi centers across seven locations of India. This NGO in India provides this nutritious mid day meal scheme to the underserved children of India through their kitchens located around the country. The Akshaya Patra foundation runs two kinds of kitchen units the centralized and decentralized kitchen models. The centralized kitchens, which number 22 out of 24, are machine-intensive units which are capable of producing food for about 100,000 children in just a few hours. Due to the mechanized nature of the cooking there is little human contact with the food, ensuring that the food safety and quality standards are maintained at all times. The other kind of kitchen model followed is the decentralized model. The Foundation runs two decentralized kitchen units one at Baran and the other at Nayagarh. These kitchen units are constructed in locations where bad road connectivity and poor infrastructure facilities act as a barrier to setting up a full scale centralized kitchen. These kitchens are operated by women of local self-help groups who have been trained by the Foundations personnel. Across all the kitchen units providing the mid day meal scheme for the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Food Safety Management Systems have been employed. Beyond this, 10 of the kitchens have been ISO 22000:2005 certified, while the rest are in the process of getting certification. ISO is an international organization for standardization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and the ISO 22000 is the standards that define the requirements of a Food Safety Management System. For this NGO in India , ensuring that safe, tasty, healthy food is available to every hungry child in India is crucial. Help us achieve this goal. Donate now . Follow us on Google+: 相关的主题文章:
